3rd ANNUAL

Steamers Cancer Benefit Showcase

On Saturday April 8th 2006, four talented local rock acts will take the stage at Steamers Pub to raise funds and awareness toward cancer care and research on Vancouver Island. This will be the third consecutive year Steamers Pub has hosted an event supporting the BC Cancer Foundation. The first two years had combined total donation of over $2100. With your help we can exceed the contribution made in previous years.

This year's benefit features Nicola Linde, Faces of Black, Jell and a special guest appearance of Ben Lubberts from Blue Mundae. For more information on the musical guests including contact information, see the band biographies below.

100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the BC Cancer Foundation (Victoria). For those who wish to make a donation but are unable to attend the event, cheques can be made out to "The BC Cancer Foundation" and sent to: BC Cancer Foundation Vancouver Island, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5.

Event Sponsors are: Steamers Pub, The BC Cancer Foundation and Long & McQuade Musical Instruments.

"This will be one hell of a benefit, and a great way to have fun and support a great cause!" - Steamers Pub, 2005

NICOLA LINDE <http://www.nicolalinde.com>

Event organizer / founder, Nicola Linde is also performing at this event. Nicola Linde is not the stereotypical female musician. She is not afraid of pounding on her guitar and singing about what's on her mind. With the influences of classic rock, grunge, pop and punk, there's an edge to her writing that keeps her on par with the boys. Nicola Linde captivates her audiences with her stunning lyrics and powerful voice delivering songs that are confessional, emotional and unapologetic. Band members Kevin O'Brien (of Thin King and Zolabud) and Terry Parker (of Tora) are a perfect compliment to Nicola Linde's songwriting.

Nicola Linde lost her grandfather to Lymphoma during the Christmas season of 2004. That same year, bassist Terry Parker lost his father-in-law to the same disease. This past year guitarist Kevin O'Brien lost his mother to intestinal cancer. This show will be close to all of their hearts as they take the time to celebrate the lives of those who were lost to this disease.

FACES of BLACK <http://www.myspace.com/facesofblack>

Faces of Black
bring heavy driving rhythms and hard-hitting female lyricism to the stage. Their sound is original, tough, straight to the point and energetic. Fronted by a powerful female vocalist, Faces of Black is a progeny of punk and fleschy metal. Their self-titled debut album, Faces of Black, is having great success across Vancouver Island, as well as Vancouver and in the most obscure cities of Norway, Italy, Brazil and Argentina. Faces of Black have also just released their latest album, titled "The Beckoning". Faces of Black have reached high acclaim in magazines such as Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles, and websites such as peacedogman.com and metalmaidens.com (Sweeden).

About three years ago, two members of Faces of Black lost a very dear friend, Tim Ahonen, to cancer. It is in his memory and the memory of past relatives and friends that Faces of Black have decided to take part in the "Live Thru This" benefit. They hope that the people of Victoria will come and support this benefit. This is the time, the time to remember and the time to live.

JELL <http://www.jellband.com>

Jell
is a modern rock band from Victoria BC. Jell has developed a devoted following over the last three years headlining shows in Victoria, Vancouver and Nanaimo. In August, Jell won the Coors Light Battle of the Bands at Jungle Nightclub. In October they became Band of the Month on the major radio station 91.3 theZone, featuring the single "Stuck" which was added to the playlist and soon moved into heavy rotation. In the last year Jell has toured across Canada twice, with shows in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and opened for hair-metal legends LA Guns in Winnipeg. They also toured down the west coast playing at the famous Whiskey-a-go-go in LA and played with So-Cal punk pioneers DI in San Diego. Jell just released their second album, Stuck, recorded with award winning producer Adam Sutherland (of Armchair Cynics), which is available to order at HMV and Chapters across Canada.

Ben Lubberts
is the singer / acoustic guitarist / pianist for the talented local act Blue Mundae. Having just signed a record deal with 604 Records (run by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback), Blue Mundae has spent the past 6 months working with producer Warne Livesey on their first EP. Ben Lubberts will be giving us all a glimpse of the new Blue Mundae album by opening the night with an acoustic set.

"I'm a humanitarian and I believe that each person is just as susceptible to the disease as anyone else... Cancer doesn't reverse itself because it hit an innocent person that didn't know any better."
